Little white house

A modest white-walled cottage with a reddish roof sits nestled amongst yellow-green foliage, its reflection dancing in the water before it. The composition balances architectural stillness with the fluid, broken brushwork of impressionism, where trees and sky merge in warm ochres and cool blues. The water’s surface becomes a mirror of colour and movement, anchoring the scene in atmosphere rather than precise detail. Van Rensburg’s shift to acrylic in 1990 enabled this distinctive handling of rural subject matter.
