Landscape

A rural settlement nestles beneath an expansive sky in this acrylic work, where horizontal bands of colour define the composition. The foreground registers in warm ochres and burnt oranges, suggesting cultivated fields, whilst the middle distance reveals scattered dwellings rendered in muted tones. Above, the sky transitions from golden dawn light to cooler blues, creating atmospheric depth. Van Rensburg’s shift to acrylic in the 1990s proved transformative, enabling him to capture the chromatic layering of agricultural landscapes that remains central to his practice.
