A sweeping vista of cultivated vineyard land unfolds across the composition, rendered in bold strokes of yellow, orange and green that capture the undulating terrain and organised rows of vines. The sky, painted in cool blues and purple tones, meets the landscape at the horizon where distant mountains rise. The acrylic application creates a vibrant, rhythmic surface that conveys both the agricultural geometry and the atmospheric quality of the Overberg region. Van Rensburg’s shift to acrylic in the 1990s enabled him to capture such landscapes with the immediacy and luminosity characteristic of his impressionist approach.
