Flowers

A vibrant bouquet rendered in loose, gestural acrylic brushwork dominates the composition. Pink, red and yellow blooms emerge from a dark stem against a pale ground, their forms suggested rather than precisely delineated. White highlights and softer purple tones create atmospheric depth, whilst the paint application remains visible and energetic throughout. Van Rensburg’s shift to acrylic in the 1990s marked a turning point in his artistic practice, expanding his impressionistic vocabulary beyond his earlier watercolour studies.
