Landscape

A rural landscape unfolds beneath a dramatic sky, where warm golden and orange tones dominate the foreground fields, their linear perspective drawing the viewer deep into the composition. Mountains rise in cool purple and blue against a luminous horizon where day transitions to dusk. The acrylic paint is applied with visible, gestural marks that capture the play of light across the terrain. Van Rensburg’s shift to acrylic in 1990 marked a pivotal evolution in his practice, enabling this more expressive treatment of the Overberg’s characteristic patchwork countryside.
