(c) The edge of the dam

A horizontal composition exploring the interplay of light and water at a liminal moment. Soft, atmospheric washes of ochre, cream and dusty rose bleed across the upper register, whilst a reflective plane of pale blue suggests a still waterway below. A striking metallic line bisects the composition, catching light as it might break across a dam’s surface. The work employs wet-on-wet techniques to create soft, diffused edges that evoke mist and reflection rather than literal description. Paxton’s practice centres on atmospheric abstraction rooted in the South African landscape.
