A horizontal composition depicting a coastal landscape rendered through atmospheric abstraction. Layered bands of ochre, cream and soft brown suggest weathered rock formations or driftwood along a shoreline, while above, pale blues and greys evoke a muted sky. A solitary seagull traces an arc through the upper register. The work employs wet-on-wet technique, allowing pigments to bleed softly into one another, whilst a luminous horizontal line—characteristic of Paxton’s practice—punctuates the composition, suggesting light catching water or breaking through cloud cover.
