A small-scale meditation on water and light, this work presents a calm body of water anchored by a dark, silhouetted treeline at its centre. The composition is structured around a stark horizontal division: above, a soft gradient of pale blue and warm cream; below, cool lavender-grey waters that mirror the sky. A luminous golden line marks the horizon, creating a focal point of warmth against the cool tonality. The artist’s characteristic wet-on-wet technique produces soft, blurred transitions that evoke mist and reflection. Paxton’s mixed-medium approach captures the ephemeral quality of light on water, characteristic of her practice rooted in landscape observation.
