Landscape

A rural landscape alive with chromatic intensity, depicting a small settlement nestled beneath mountains, with a church at its centre and scattered buildings amid cultivated fields rendered in bold strokes of yellow, orange and red. The composition employs expressive colour to convey emotion rather than naturalistic detail, with warm tones dominating the foreground and cooler blues suggesting sky and distance. A profusion of flowering forms—yellows and pinks—animate the upper register, their gestural quality emphasising the artist’s engagement with colour as the primary means of expression. Le Roux employs acrylic on canvas to explore the passionate, layered emotional landscape of South African terrain.
