Harvesters

An energetic composition depicting agricultural labour rendered in swirling, expressionistic forms. Figures engage in harvesting activity, their bodies and limbs animated by vigorous brushwork that dissolves into rhythmic, almost musical passages of colour. The composition pulses with movement across the paper surface, employing warm and cool tones in dynamic tension. Niemann’s oil-on-paper technique here reflects his lifelong commitment to daily artistic practice and the influence of South African modernist traditions.
