Clown

A portrait of a figure rendered in gestural, expressionistic brushwork across oil and paper. The composition presents a face in three-quarter view, defined by bold strokes in yellow ochre, brown and cream tones against a vibrant blue ground. Areas of pink and red accent the cheeks and lips, whilst black lines articulate the eyes and contours. The layered, sometimes scraped surface creates an immediacy of feeling over finish. Niemann’s practice of daily painting, rooted in careful observation and the influence of his mentors, grounds this work in disciplined artistic habit.
