Harvest

A rural community gathers during the harvest season beneath a large tree anchoring the composition. Le Roux depicts figures, a red vehicle, and domestic animals distributed across a sunlit landscape framed by distant mountains. The acrylic paint is applied with directness and vigour, the forms somewhat simplified yet animated. Warm greens and yellows dominate the fields, punctuated by bold accents of red and blue among the figures’ clothing. The work exemplifies le Roux’s characteristic expressionistic approach to South African rural life, invested with considerable feeling and the courageous use of colour that defines her practice.
