A harbour scene rendered with characteristic expressionistic vigour, depicting moored fishing vessels nestled together in luminous blue waters. The composition layers boats of varying scales, their hulls rendered in warm ochres and whites, anchored amongst a densely painted landscape of coastal dwellings and mountains. Le Roux’s signature use of bold, unmodulated colour creates a sense of immediacy and emotional presence, whilst the loose, gestural brushwork conveys movement and life. This work exemplifies the artist’s sustained engagement with South African maritime subjects, rendered through the courageous palette that has defined her practice since 1974.
