The modest structure—modest in scale and ambition—demonstrates du Toit’s characteristic command of light and shadow, where natural illumination defines form and creates spatial depth. The composition is spare and contemplative, emphasising the interplay between the building’s muted tonality and the surrounding emptiness. Working in oil on board, the artist employs the classical impressionistic technique he has refined through decades of intensive study.
