Blue boxer

A schematic profile of a boxer rendered in welded steel, its angular form suggesting both pugilistic readiness and whimsical abstraction. The figure’s distinctive silhouette—cocked fist, squared shoulders, pronounced chin—emerges from a minimalist composition anchored by a solid base. Kuijers employs the inherent properties of steel to create sharp, geometric planes that evoke movement whilst maintaining geometric clarity. The vibrant cobalt finish provides striking visual presence against neutral surroundings. The artist, who transitioned to full-time practice in 1999 after a decade of design work, here demonstrates a sculptural approach rooted in graphic sensibility.
