Three figures labour together at the shoreline, their bodies angled in concentrated effort as they haul rope from the sea. The composition emphasises collective toil through overlapping forms rendered in warm earthen tones—ochre, rust and cream—against a soft aquamarine horizon. The paint handling is notably economical, with subtle gradations creating spatial depth whilst the figures seem to float upon the canvas through Langdown’s characteristic use of reddish-brown tonalities. This 2006 print exemplifies the artist’s long-standing interest in the quotidian struggles of Cape communities.
