Sewe Granate

Seven pomegranates arranged in a horizontal frieze against a mottled ground of ochre and grey-blue tones. Each fruit is rendered with careful attention to form and surface texture, their deep red-orange hue dominating the composition. The works presents the subjects with an almost archaeological precision, whilst the restrained palette and narrow, elongated format create an intimate intensity. In Heyns’ practice, such botanical subjects transcend decoration to embody cycles of growth and decay.
