A single flower rendered in warm, honeyed tones dominates this intimate composition. Four delicate petals unfurl upward from a slender stem, whilst below, two smaller butterfly-like forms emerge in complementary hues. Heyns employs oil paint with meticulous control, building luminous layers that capture both fragility and presence. The neutral ground allows the subject to occupy its own contemplative space. In Heyns’ practice, such botanical forms transcend decoration to embody the cyclical nature of existence itself.
