A densely composed study of irises rendered in bold linear mark-making, their petals and stems filling the rectangular format with dynamic energy. The composition builds vertically, with layered blooms creating rhythmic patterns of light and shadow. Executed in etching with stark contrasts between inked blacks and reserved whites, the work conveys the structural complexity of the flowers through assured, gestural lines. Boonzaier’s practice across painting, printmaking and drawing extended throughout his long career as a South African artist.
