Girls

Two young figures occupy an intimate interior space, one seated at a mirror or vanity whilst the other stands nearby, both rendered in warm, earthy tones. Van Wyk’s composition draws the viewer into a moment of quiet domesticity, with careful attention to the fall of fabric and the play of light across the wooden furnishings. The painting employs loose, gestural brushwork that conveys both form and atmosphere, creating a work that balances representational clarity with expressive immediacy. Oil on board allows the artist to build luminous surface qualities throughout the composition.
