Cafe

This intimate interior scene depicts figures gathered in what appears to be a café or social space, rendered in loose, energetic brushwork. The composition draws the viewer’s eye through the clustered arrangement of seated and standing figures, their forms suggested rather than precisely delineated. A warm palette of ochre, red, and flesh tones dominates, punctuated by cooler accents, while the handling of light conveys an informal, convivial atmosphere. Van Wyk employs oil on board to create a work of immediate, gestural presence.
