Four Hearts

Four stylised hearts in contrasting colours occupy a quartered compositional field: deep teal and pink in the upper left, orange and burgundy in the upper right, red in the lower left, and yellow with deep purple in the lower right. The hearts appear rendered in tapestry with soft, diffused edges that suggest either felting or a deliberately painterly technique unusual to woven textiles. The palette vibrates with chromatic intensity, whilst the simple, repeated motif creates an almost meditative quality. Heyns’ pursuit of aesthetic perfection through intimate dialogue with his chosen medium extends here into textile, a surprising departure from his better-known painterly practice.
