Vissersdorpie

A fishing village rendered in oil on board, its modest dwellings and beached boats arranged along a shoreline beneath a cloud-laden sky. Two figures animate the foreground amongst the vessels, whilst the composition balances architectural forms against the open expanse of water and horizon. Van Aswegen’s painterly approach employs visible brushwork to suggest atmosphere and light, creating a sense of quotidian maritime life. The work dates from 2005.
