A profile portrait dominates the composition, its contours rendered in bold black lines against a predominantly neutral ground. Within the silhouette, a bare tree emerges from the figure’s shoulder, whilst a golden orb floats above. The lower portion features a stark red mouth and a wooden fence rendered in perspective. Mixed media techniques—combining drawing, painting and collage—create layered surface interest, the palette restrained yet punctuated by warm ochre tones. Du Toit’s self-taught approach, developed through practice since 1998, yields work of distinctive conceptual clarity.
