Nine Hearts

A tic-tac-toe grid rendered in tapestry presents nine heart forms arranged in three rows of three. Eight hearts are rendered in muted, weathered tones—greens, browns and blacks—whilst the centre square holds a single green heart rendered with greater clarity. Bold black lines demarcate the grid structure. The work demonstrates Heyns’ characteristic technical mastery and intimate dialogue with his chosen medium, here translating the symbol of the heart into textile form with notable restraint and contemplative depth.
