Four hearts arranged in a grid configuration dominate this textile work, each rendered with distinctive character and chromatic intensity. The hearts progress from a yellow-outlined form to solid geometric shapes in black and dark tones, set against a richly layered ground of red, orange, yellow, pink and purple. The tapestry technique creates a soft, diffused quality, with colours bleeding and blending at their edges. Heyns’ characteristic pursuit of aesthetic dialogue between artist and medium is evident in the deliberate tension between the work’s simple motif and its complex, emotionally charged execution.
