Paul Munro

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1959, Paul Munro’s artistic journey was influenced from an early age by his father, Gordon Munro, an amateur artist. After serving in the Police force from 1977 to 1981, Munro pursued his passion for art, studying Commercial Art and obtaining an International Diploma. Furthering his artistic education, he spent two years at Tygerberg Art College, honing his skills.

In 1983, Munro embarked on a remarkable chapter of his life, dedicating himself full-time to painting. Armed with a backpack, paints, and his faithful German Shepherd companion, he embarked on a two-year journey across South Africa. Trekking through diverse landscapes, Munro captured the rhythmic forms of nature, focusing predominantly on landscapes, particularly the vast expanses of the Karoo and inland regions. Munro’s preferred mediums are oils and acrylics, although he also enjoys sketching.

What sets Munro apart is his ability to paint straight from his imagination, a fact that astonishes viewers when confronted with the intricate detail of his work. His extensive travels throughout South Africa have provided him with a wealth of mental images, memories, and experiences, which he translates onto canvas with remarkable skill and precision.

Munro’s passion for painting dates back to his youth, marked by his first exhibition at the age of 15. This lifelong dedication to his craft, coupled with the artistic influence of his father, has shaped Munro into the accomplished artist he is today. With each brushstroke, Munro continues to captivate audiences with his evocative portrayals of the South African landscape, leaving an indelible mark on the world of art.
