Frances Wedepohl

Frances June Wedepohl (nee van Blerck) born 1964 in Port Elizabeth. "I married Andre in 1985 and have three children. Reside in Randburg, Gauteng. I attended Rosebank Primary and Hyde Park High School, and was awarded top mark for Art in matric year, 1982. I did a T3 in Architectural Draughting and came top student in my year. I have worked as an architectural draughter and also ran a cake business doing wedding and other special occasion cakes. I started painting in 2004.I am largely self-taught although I have attended classes to be with like-minded friends. I have sold my art through The Art Place Gallery (previously in Linden), Purple Heart Gallery the Alice Art Gallery Garden Exhibitions and through personal contacts and commissions. I am also exhibiting at the Mogale Museum. My draughting background and inclination have definitely impacted my art. I work with a limited palette in acrylics and oils. I love line, shape and colour and am most contented when mixing creamy oil paints. I love what I do. My first passion is landscapes but I also enjoy doing portraits and figures. I particularly admire the work of JH Pierneef , Louis Audie. I also love the portrait work of Joaquin Sorolla and the Impressionists. Our South African landscape is an inspiration with our rich soils, lighting and mountains and valleys. I love being in South Africa. My favourite quote is Shakespeare’s “To thine own self be true”I hope you enjoy my work
